The CobraHead is an excellent aid for laying down the perimeter wire. It leaves a score where the wire can be laid down, much lower than just pegging. The lower the wire can be laid down the less likely it is to get caught up in the mower blade.
In a normal installation the wire is pegged on top of the grass. After about 2 weeks the grass grows over the wire and after about 6 weeks the grass roots push the wire into the ground.
The CobraHead gives this process a big head start. It is like a steel fingernail, designed to make a clear line at grass root level, minimizing the chance of the blade cutting the wire and speeding the process of allowing the grass roots to cover the wire.
Step 1. Lay the wire loose so it can me moved slightly if needed.
Step 2. Use the CobraHead to make a score in the lawn just under the grassroots. It does not help to dig too deep!
Step 3. Tuck the wire into the score then use a plastic peg every 12-18 inches
See how the wire and peg are no longer visible?
Of course the CobraHead has many other uses too, as a weeder and cultivator, but those are just bonuses compared to the value it will have as you lay down the wire for your new robotic lawnmower!
