The splined rollers are superior to the big smooth rollers of bigger pea shellers. "Spline" means the rollers are like intermeshed gears that provide extra torque as they flex and "feel" the size of the pea hull to automatically adjust for optimal hulling. In fact, the Electric Mr. Pea Sheller is so confident of splining that the gears spacing is fixed and cannot be adjusted. It must work because the Electric Mr. Pea Sheller has been made since 1976!
